Mission

To produce excellent scholars and professionals in various specializations of communication imbued with the spirit of integrating the qualities of faith (iman), knowledge (ilm) and good character (akhlaq).

Vision

To be an international center of educational excellence which integrates Islamic Revealed Knowledge and values in the communication discipline and aspires to the restoration of the Ummah's leading role in all branches of knowledge.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the department is in line with the philosophy of the International Islamic University, which is to integrate and unify the discipline of communication studies under the concept of Tawhid thus doing away with the compartmentalization of secular knowledge and revealed knowledge.

In relation to the above, degree programmes in Human Sciences (Communication) are designed for graduates to:
· Achieve comprehensive excellence and professional competency with highest integrity through integration and Islamization of programme.
· Have a good understanding of the background to their profession, so that they can make use of the literature and continue to develop their knowledge after graduation.
· Have the qualities needed for employment in situations requiring the exercise of professionalism, independent thought, personal responsibility and decision making in complex and unpredictable circumstances.

Our Department

The Department of Communication was established on July 1, 1990 under the Kulliyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences. It was established on the realization that communication plays a very important role in the life of the Muslims. The Holy Qur’an specifically states that Muslims are ‘the best nations ever evolved and that we are enjoined to invite ma’aruf and forbid munkar.’ It is also in line with the first five verses of the Holy Qur’an, the first of which begins with, “Read! In the name of thy Lord and cherisher who created." To play this role effectively the ummah has to be equipt with the knowledge as well to master the skills and technology of modern communication.

The Department has two programmes:

The academic programmes offered are:
· Bachelor of Human Sciences in Communication
· Master of Human Sciences in Communication
· Doctor of Philosophy of Human Sciences in Communication

The non-academic programmes offered are:
· conducting short-courses, workshops, seminars and conferences
· publication of teaching and research materials/conference proceedings
· production of audio-visual materials to support teaching and da’wah work.
